I Love Loosy
***May's*First*Newsletter***
Hello hello hello!
Writing from the solitude of my childhood home, where I'm dog-sitting for Loosy, a real freak of an animal. Half weenie, half a bunch of other things. She’s significantly smarter (and much more of a handful) than our last family dog, and her behavior is often confusing. For these reasons, my mom will often tell me that Loosy reminds her of me :)
It took our girl a long time to learn the kind of snuggliness an owner would hope for in a dog—for the first year or two she simply would not be cuddled. But if you fell asleep on the couch you might wake up to her standing on top of your chest. She was trying. Now she lives at my feet, or on my lap, or next to me on the piano bench, trying to add keys to my chords, make them more obscure. In the evenings I've been plucking white feathers from the couch cushions and inserting them into her black coat. She's starting to look like the wannabe festival-goer girls from high school who'd get feather extensions in their hair.
My friend Arjun said that the two of us should have our own sitcom—I Love Loosy ~
Anyways, she makes me so happy. I know talking about your own dog is never as interesting to anybody else as it is to you, but it's been a relief to think about her and not much else for a few days.
In between taking Loosy on slow, sweaty walks up and down the hill my parents live on, I've been listening to the latest mixes of my second album for some final feedback. At the in-person mixing session before I left town, mixer Steve ran Aspartame through his $$ speakers with the adjustments we'd just made. I bowed my head to listen, and as the song played on I thought of all the brilliant minds that have touched this project and the support that I have. I felt so lucky, so grateful to be sitting on this beanbag and hearing the result of months of labor. I cried a little, I did! I'm not usually a person who cries tears of joy, and it was pretty weird.
In other news ~*~*~*
1. If you happen to be in AUSTIN, I'll be playing at Hotel Vegas tomorrow night with the real homies Nevil. Can't wait to lose my mind ¯\(º_o)/¯
2. If you happen to be anywhere, stop what you're doing and watch the new Blaketheman1000 music video for Dean Kissick. Proud of the homies involved in the making of this masterpiece
3. If you're in NYC, tonight is the annual(ish) Montez Got Talent, a karaoke competition on steroids, hosted by my friend Lena. The event of the year IMO. Probably best that I'm not in town because it would be too emotionally overwhelming for me. Best of luck to tonight's contestants
That's all I got for now. Thank you all for subscribing (and of course, you can unsubscribe) ♥ Other than having to google 20 times what a DNS is, this was fun and I can't wait to do it again כּ‗כּ
